2023 Reading Challenge

2023 Challenge – Official Rules

  • The Extreme Book Nerd Challenge runs from January 1, 2023 to December 31, 2023.
  • Record one category for a total of 50 books in 50+ weeks. You cannot use the same book for multiple categories.  
  • All Glenns Ferry Public Library cardholders, adults and teens (13+), are eligible to win the completion prize.
  • All Books read for the challenge need to be recorded in your Extreme Book Nerd Challenge reading log with the title, author and date completed for each book listed with each category.
  • Books for other reading programs, book clubs and school assignments can be counted towards this challenge as long as they fit into one of the categories. Books will only count if they are started on or after January 1,2023 and are done before December 31, 2023.
  • Audiobooks may be counted toward the challenge.
  • Books must be Middle Grade reading level or higher to count toward the challenge. 
  • Participants that finish the challenge by December 31, 2023, will receive an exclusive prize.

Extreme Book Nerd Challenge FAQs

Who can Participate in this Challenge?
Adults and teens (13+) that have a current Glenns Ferry Public Library card.
How quickly can I finish and report?
As quickly as you complete the challenge, as long as the books were read during the Extreme Book Nerd Challenge time frame (January 1, 2023 – December 31, 2023).
I'm 12 and want to participate. Can I register?
You may register if you will turn 13 by December 31, 2023.
Can I count books I read before I register for the challenge?
Yes, as long as they were started on or after January 1, 2023.
How do I know if a book counts for a category?
If you feel a book fits a category, record it in your reading log. If you are not sure which category ask a library staff member.
Can I read children's books?
Books need to be Middle Grade level or higher. To check if your title is rated grade 6 or higher, we suggest using the Scholastic Book Wizard tool.
Do I need to complete the categories in order?
You may complete the categories in any order, as long as all 50 categories are completed by December 31,2023.
How do I report completion?
Return Glenns Ferry Public Library Extreme Book Nerd Challenge reading log to any library staff member.
How and when do I get my prize?
Once the challenge ends on December 31, 2023, library staff will tally completion record and prepare the prize order. Because prizes will be custom ordered, they will not be able for pick up until after the start of 2024.
